The Fumex team is happy to announce that Alvar has nominated us for Innovation Company of the Year. Alvar is the annual business gala in our hometown Skellefteå and the winner will be presented on the 17th of March.

We met with our Technical Manager, Lars Hedlund, to get his reaction to the news.

Hi Lars, how does it feel to be nominated for the Innovation Company of the Year?

It’s a great feeling, and we’re all happy about the nomination. If you think about how much of an innovation-driven city Skellefteå is, being nominated is a real feather in our cap.

Why do you think Skellefteå is such an innovation hub?

Well, we’re not a university town, but we’ve always had great industries here. It has allowed local innovators and smaller companies to support industries with new intelligent technologies and solutions.

It sounds like there’s some tough competition. So, why is Fumex nominated?

We have always been at the forefront of the environmental technology sector. But if we focus on last year’s achievements, we introduced several new market-leading products. We were also selected as a partner to the Luleå University of Technology regarding additive manufacturing (3D printing).

The theme for this year’s Alvar business gala is “Skellefteå as an international business hub.” What opportunities do you see with international companies moving in?

Of course, we want to be a part of the ongoing industrial development in the city. And as a local company with international experience, we can support companies moving in with solutions within our area of expertise. Besides that, we all enjoy seeing our hometown getting the international recognition that it deserves – we are truly an innovative city.

Thank Lars, and best of luck at the gala night!

We met with Anders Hedlund, CEO at Fumex, to discuss his anticipations for 2023.

You are now entering another year as CEO of Fumex. What feelings do you bring into 2023?

Last year, we had exceptional growth for all of our subsidiaries, and it actually was at an all-time high. So, entering 2023, I have a very good feeling, even though we face some challenges due to what is happening in the world.

What do you believe are the biggest challenges of 2023?

First of all, there’s ongoing inflation which we haven’t had for many years. Secondly, we are affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, increasing energy prices, and the shortage of materials. But these challenges aren’t unique for just Fumex, and I firmly believe every company is affected in some capacity.

So, how do we face these challenges?

We will have to work focused and smart like we always do! We have much to look forward to in 2023, and we are no longer as affected by the pandemic as we used to be.

What can we expect from Fumex in 2023?

What I’m looking forward to the most is starting the construction of our new premises. It is set to begin early this summer, and we hope to move in during the second half of 2024! Besides that, we will continue to visit international exhibitions and launch several new products.

And finally, what industry trends do you see?

Due to the continued electrification of vehicles, we will see a reduced need for solutions for exhaust gases, but this is still a couple of years away. In 2023, following the footsteps of the pandemic, there will likely be a continued need for high-quality extraction solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.

We have finally arrived in 2023, a year filled with new opportunities! But before we leave 2022 behind us, we would like to take the time to look back at some of the highlights from the year. There has been a lot going on!

History in the making

The indisputably biggest news of the year was the announcement of the plans for our new facility in Skellefteå. It will be a two-story building of 5,500 square meters that can house both a factory and an office.

– This will be the greatest investment in Fumex history, and we look forward to the opportunity to adapt the facilities to our production and business needs, says Anders Hedlund, CEO at Fumex.

The factory will be ready in the summer of 2024.

Three product releases

During the year, we introduced three new fans to the market. First off, it was the FTE; a radial fan developed to handle larger particles and high concentrations of dust-laden air efficiently.

Secondly, we presented the C 600HT. It is a heat-resistant radial fan for installations that withstands extreme operating temperatures up to +200 °C.

And finally, we launched the FBE in mid-December. The high-efficiency radial fan will be one of the most efficient for this type of application on the market!

Fumex on the big screen

2022 was a big year for us marketing-wise, especially with the release of our brand-new company movie. It was mainly recorded in our hometown of Skellefteå and the headquarters here.

You can watch it here!

Solutions for unique customer needs

As a company founded in the north of Sweden, supporting those around us is important. In February, we visited our good friend Klas Nilsson, a professional skier from Skellefteå who, in 2021, won Red Bull Nordenskiöldsloppet, the world’s longest ski race. He uses a custom-made extraction arm from Fumex in the team’s ski waxing truck to take care of dangerous chemicals.

Customer presence in Germany

During the pandemic years, we didn’t get the chance to visit all of the trade fairs we wanted. Fortunately, things have changed for the better, and this year, Fumex went on tour once again.

Representatives from our German subsidiary visited four of Germany’s biggest trade fairs within the industrial segment – METAV in Düsseldorf, ACHEMA in Frankfurt, POWTECH in Nürnberg, and finally, EuroBLECH in Hannover!

It was truly amazing to meet old friends, new partners, and customers; we look forward to seeing you again next year!

The Fumex FBE is available in seven sizes covering an airflow from 500 to 15.000 m3/h and with a static pressure from 1.100 to 4.500 Pa. The electrical motors have electrical power from 0,37 to 11 kW.

– We see an increased focus on workplace health and energy savings, so it feels good to help our industrial customers further with the Fumex FBE. In addition to efficiency and functionality, it is important to us that our products can be adapted to unique customer conditions. For example, Fumex FBE can be installed indoors and outdoors, says Anders Hedlund, CEO of Fumex.

Fumex FBE has been developed and tested in collaboration with selected customers and partners to ensure that it meets market needs and expectations. The design and development process has occurred at Fumex’s headquarters in Skellefteå, Sweden. The company expects that the FBE will meet future ErP directives.

– At Fumex, we always look for new ways to make our operations more efficient and sustainable and ensuring a local supply chain plays a key role. Fumex FBE is made of high-quality steel from Sweden and is set to be a long-term solution as it is both durable and integratable, says Anders.

The FBE radial fan can be used with Fumex’s extraction arms, filters, and control systems. Several accessories are also available for the FBE series to make installation and use easier.

– With flexibility as our products’ trademark, we can offer our customers a complete solution for safe and healthy work environments or single products where needed, says Anders.

As for teamwork activities, the visiting Swedes got to experience sightseeing in the beautiful city of Frankfurt, and enjoy local delicacies and festivities.

– Trips like this are a great way to strengthen an already solid team spirit, and at the same time, update everybody on company goals and visions. Every year we arrange different kinds of company activities, whether it’s Christmas dinners or a trip to Frankfurt. But like the rest of the world, we’ve also been restricted by Covid-19. So our team very much appreciated this! We would like to thank our German colleagues for their hospitality, and we will return the favor sooner than later, says Evelina Degerman, HR manager at Fumex Sweden.

We are happy to announce the launch of our new company movie. Watch it to learn more about our heritage, who we are, what we believe in, and how we provide a Pure Advantage.

To meet the high industrial demand for a safe and clean work environment, Fumex launches a new range of high-quality radial fans called FTE. It is made to handle larger particles and high concentrations of dust-laden air efficiently.

For various interior reasons, some industrial workplaces are unable to install filter units in their extraction system. The new product range from Fumex, the FTE, is set to meet those challenges and guarantee a healthy work environment.

The new range of radial fans targets workplaces with high concentrations of dust-laden air. The welded impeller, made from heavy-duty steel sheets, has straight blades allowing it to manage dust with less risk of imbalance that could cause bearing damage.

Compared to similar models on the market, Fumex FTE has more space between the blades, providing a more wide design capable of handling larger particles.

Five different models

Fumex FTE is available in five models – 075, 150, 220, 400 and 750, going from 0,75 kW to 7,5 kW. It can handle airflows up to 6600 m3/h (1830 l/s).

The robust radial fan is easy to install and can be used with other Fumex products, such as extraction arms and control units. The direction of the outlet is easily changed by turning the fan housing.

Since the pandemic, the world has slowly been trying to get back to a normal state of mind. And even though we all have been affected by it, both personally and at work, we are glad to say that we made yet another successful year – healthwise and business. It is time to sum up 2021!

2021 has been the second consecutive year with limited opportunities to meet our customers, partners, and suppliers. But we got to meet some of you in Stuttgart during Schweisstec, and in both Chicago and New York. It was great to be back on the road, and we can’t wait until the rest of Europe, North America, and Asia open up!

During these extraordinary times, we set up a goal to parry the biggest impacts of the pandemic and use the extra time to prepare and plan our next move as soon as this is over. But we can already see the fruits of our labor! The revenue och results are just behind our 2019 number – which is our best year to this date.

A profitable fall and marketing activities

The last months of 2021 were very profitable, not at least in Sweden. In September, we signed a deal with UMIA, to deliver a full-scale solution consisting of a substantial amount of extractor arms, big stationary particle filters combined with our control automation, and large fans to the vocational school in Kiruna, in northernmost Sweden. It’s one of our biggest projects ever, and we are glad that it is taking place on our “home turf”. Our subsidiaries in USA and Germany are living up to expectations and have been able to keep all employees busy. We are confident that they also will see a significant improvement in sales, as soon as society opens up completely!

2021 has also been a big year for our marketing department. We have established a stable social media presence, and we have increased the number of activities on each platform. We are also working on a brand new website and two company movies which will launch during the first quarter of 2022. Stay tuned for more information and their release!

New faces at Fumex

And finally, despite these times, we decided to hire new staff to take the next step with our product development department. When we see you again in 2022, we will launch an upgraded product range of stainless steel extraction arms for the pharmaceutical industry. The new product line also meets the high demands for food production and explosive environments, so-called ATEX environments.

At Fumex, we are optimistic about the future. And we are certain that the world will return to normal, sooner or later. But until then, we will do what we can to provide our customers with healthy work environments, our as we call it – Pure Advantage.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

A half year has passed since you last heard from our CEO Anders Hedlund. Right now, he is on his way back home from Germany, where he has visited our subsidiary in Frankfurt. In this short interview he is looking back at the first six months of the year, and what can be expected as Fumex keeps moving forward.

How has 2021 treated Fumex so far?

Well, almost everything has been about the ongoing pandemic. At the Skellefteå office, many of our employees have had to work from home. I miss meeting all of my colleagues, but it is an absolute necessity that we all take our responsibility during these times. But we have, after all, had a good six month run. Sales look good and we are moving towards one of our best years ever in terms of results!

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

Trade fairs have long been a natural meeting place for Fumex and our customers. But since they have been canceled, we have had to adapt. That is why we have invested more in our digital marketing, social media presence, website and digital customer meetings. It has been a challenge for us, but I think it has been just as important to learn!

What can you tell us about the product development process?

I do not want to reveal too much yet, but we have a number of new products just waiting to be released. I believe that the world will open up sooner than later, hopefully this autumn, and that we can begin to visit our suppliers once again. Trust me, there is a lot going on at Fumex!

And the final question, what project are you most excited about?

It is without a doubt our digital marketing! I am a firm believer that it is, in many ways, the marketplace of the future. Therefore, we will continue to make an even better website experience and strengthen our social media presence. With that being said, I am also looking forward to getting out and meeting all of our customers and partners!
